Description

Join us to learn the basics of starting and maintaining your own vegetable garden. We'll discuss everything you need to know, including choosing the right location, soil, seeds, plants, fertilizers, trellises, pest control, and much more! We'll even include some of our favorite garden to table recipes to ensure your garden produce makes its way to the kitchen. Our speakers this month are Sheryl Virgilio and Lauren Gentry. Sheryl has worked at Urban Earth for over three years and has been gardening at home for 23 years. She is also a local Master Gardener and loves to give back to the community by sharing everything she has learned. Her vegetable garden at home includes tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, purple hull peas, lots of lettuces, herbs, and more. Her favorite things to grow are okra and pickling cucumbers. Lauren has been at Urban Earth since november and previously was a high school science teacher. She's an avid gardener who continues to research and learn best practices for her plants. Her favorite edible to grow is a tie between snow peas and cucamelons. This month's free saturday seminar falls on April 15th, our estimated last frost date for the midsouth! We generally recommend waiting to plant tender annuals and vegetables until this time which makes it the perfect day to come to the greenhouse. You'll be ready to start your vegetable garden that day!
