Local area high schools will join us for the event where students will explore CTE programs by rotating through faculty ran workshop sessions and will: Experience hands-on learning Enjoy a catered lunch Explore career and college pathways at Clark College in pathways such as Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical, Allied Health, and Business and Entrepreneurship Event Agenda: 8:30am-9:30am: Arrival and Resource Fair 9:30am-10:00am: Welcome & Introduction 10:00am-10:45am: Workshop Session 1 11:00am-11:45am: Workshop Session 2 12:00pm-1:00pm: Lunch and Alumni Panel* 1:00pm: Depart from Clark College *Big Town Hero, a sandwich-shop chain offering a variety of subs & paninis, served on bread made in-house daily, will be catering this event Sign-up Instructions: Students will choose two workshops they wish to attend. You can view the available workshops and their descriptions below. Each workshop is capped at a certain headcount, so please be sure to sign up early! Workshop List and Descriptions: 1. Diesel Technology- Electrical Trainer Circuit Basics and Digital Multimeter Introduction. 2. Welding Technology- We will have a tour of our welding lab, overview of our program and a chance to try our VR welding simulators. Our students will be in class so you’ll get a first-hand view of our welding program. 3. Professional Baking and Pastry Arts- Take a tour through the production baking labs. Watch as students make artisan breads, croissants, Danish and cakes. See the retail space where student-made products are sold and try many different samples! 4. Cuisine Management- The cuisine department will be hosting a Grilling Basics workshop on the patio area outside of the MCI Student Restaurant. Students will learn how to properly grill and also get to sample an array of local vegetables from the Vancouver Farmer’s Market. 5. Business and BASAM- The Business Technology department prepares students for careers as office professionals. The BASAM program is a Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Management. 6. Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Aeronautical)- In a small village nestled in the rolling hills of the countryside there lived a group of children who loved candy. Due to ice and snow covered roads the candy truck could not make it to the village and the children were miserable. Show the children you care by designing, building, and testing an apparatus to safely deliver a piece of candy from a height of about 40 ft to a target point, making sure not to damage the candy or hit the heads of bystanders. 7. Surveying and Geomatics- Surveying and Geomatics involves the accurate assessment, measuring, and plotting of land and water boundaries for development projects that include buildings, roads, and bridges. Come to this session to learn how to read a map of Vancouver! 8. Medical Assisting- Medical Assistants maintain the daily workflow of a medical office. They work directly with physicians and patients to ensure a productive experience in a variety of healthcare environments. 9. Phlebotomy- Come learn about a growing healthcare field with a hands-on demonstration! Phlebotomy is the practice of drawing blood for analysis, donation, or medical testing. Phlebotomy is a rewarding career or stepping stone into healthcare! 10. Health Information Management and Medical Billing and Coding- These programs prepare you to work in administrative careers in healthcare systems. 11. Early Childhood Education and BASTE- Do you love working with children? Come learn from faculty in our Early Childhood Education and Teacher Education programs about career paths and opportunities in early learning and beyond! 12. Computer Science & Electrical Engineering- Computer Science and Electrical Engineering are both exciting and dynamic fields that offer a wide range of opportunities to work on cutting-edge technology and make a positive impact on the world. We will discuss opportunities and how to get started in this field during the session. 13. Network Technology & Cybersecurity- Students interested in Networking or Cybersecurity will be introduced to Wireshark. Wireshark is a protocol analyzer for capturing and analyzing packets of data traveling in a communication channel. In this workshop, the student will be analyzing packet capture files for insecure network traffic. 14. Automotive Technology- The automotive program is structured so that students receive a quarter of instruction on campus followed by a quarter of paid, on-the-job learning. Come find out what it takes to get into the programs and build a successful career in the automotive industry! 14. Admissions and Running Start- In this session we will talk through everything you will need to know in order to get started at Clark College! We will explain the different programs/degrees Clark offers and walk you through the application and enrollment steps. 15. Financial Aid- The Financial Aid office provides different types of funding to help you cover the cost of education expenses, including tuition, fees, books, and supplies. We can assist you with understanding what types of financial aid are available, and how each of them works, including student loans, grants, work study, and scholarships. 16. Pre-College 101- This session is an introduction to Clark College, focusing on the tools and resources you will need in order to make a successful transition to college life. 17. Tools for College Success- Starting college is an exciting adventure, but it can also be overwhelming! Fortunately, at Clark we have Student Success Coaches that will be by your side so you can make the most of your college experience, develop effective study habits, and create plans to help you achieve your goals.
