Description
We will have five panelists present on their experience as modern-day caregivers for their loved ones. Panelist Moderator, Neal Shah, started CareYaya after deeply personal experiences in family caregiving – helping manage care for his aging grandparents at the end of their lives; and then, becoming the primary caregiver for his wife through years of battling cancer. He experienced frustrations with the current, completely broken system of in-home care, and decided to embark on a mission to create equitable access to quality, affordable care for everyone. Our first panelist, Nealy Ambron, is currently in her 19th year of service in the Army, as an officer in Psychological Operations. Approaching her retirement this coming November, Nealy hopes to transition her career to the healthcare industry as a case manager and advocate for clients’ care and long-term well-being. Her inspiration for this field comes from her experience being a full-time caregiver for her special needs child, who was born with microcephaly, seizure disorder, optic nerve hypoplasia, and a neuron migration disorder, called Lissencephaly. Our second panelist is Mary Lucas. Mary earned her master’s in healthcare management from Johns Hopkins University and currently serves as vice president of marketing for Transitions LifeCare in 2019. Hear Mary discuss her experience in hospice and palliative care, as it started very personally when she stepped up as a caregiver to help her family navigate her grandparents’ end-of-life journey with Alzheimer’s and congestive heart failure. Our third panelist is Emily Dolegowski, a young helping professional from Raleigh NC, working in psychology and counseling. Emily will discuss her passion for effective caregiving and her experience working in frontline group counseling positions, assisting with the treatment of acute eating disorders in both children and adults. Our fourth panelist, Kristie Aimee Kaufman, is a cancer survivor and a full-time caregiver for her 92-year-old mother. Kristie has acted as a caregiver for many family and friends throughout her life with experience in end-of-life care and cancer treatment. She also regularly volunteers with the Patient Family Advocacy Council at UNC Rex Cancer Center. Our final panelist is Dr. Leon Adelman who is an emergency physician and co-founder of Ivy Clinicians. As medical director at Tennova Healthcare Clarksville and Johnston Health UNC, Leon led emergency department teams to exceptional patient-centered outcomes. Leon is a graduate of Brown University, the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Haslam College of Business Physician Executive MBA. Following our panelist presentation, students and health professionals will have the opportunity to network with one another while enjoying light food and refreshments.
