Inspired by the Shirley Chisholm quote "If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair." Join the Elmont Cultural Center for this month’s meeting as we screen the documentary Madan Sara as we break bread together eating refreshments from local restaurant Le Spot then have an interactive discussion on the film and talk about how we as women in the community can support eachother locally and globally. The Madan Sara film centers on the informal status of women in the Haitian society and their importance to that same society and how it functions. Madan Saras deliver goods throughout the country and most times sell their goods in the public marketplaces to support their families. However, it is dangerous work because they are subject to being robbed, disruption on the street which holds up commerce, and other dangers. Most times they are not protected by the authorities.
