In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of Family Archiving. Archivists will teach the basics of preservation, share examples of poorly preserved materials, and demonstrate preservation techniques. Together we will explore the questions: What is an archive? Why does our history matter? Which documents, photos, or artifacts should be prioritized? And, What steps do we need to take to preserve our family's legacy? Participants will walk away with their own family archival kit so that they can start preserving their family's history as soon as they get home.
This will be an interactive workshop and we ask that participants bring a photo, document, or artifact from their home collection to share with the group. We look forward to meeting you and talking through your family's preservation needs!
