This workshop will equip you with everything you need to know to successfully start a spring and summer garden in Central NC! We’ll introduce concepts such as bed prep, crop suitability, planting techniques (i.e. direct sowing vs. transplanting), and crop maintenance (including watering, weeding, and an intro to pest control).
The workshop will be host at Geer Street Learning Garden, located at 110 E. Geer St, Durham, NC. Parking is available across the street on the lawn next to Bull City Cool/Farmer Foodshare or there is free street parking on adjacent Mangum and Roxboro Streets.
Things to bring and wear: Snacks and water bottles, bug spray, sunscreen, hats, pens/pencils, notepads. We'll be outside, so dress appropriately for the weather and with comfortable footwear. Mosquitos are common; sleeves and bug spray help. Masks are not required, but you should feel empowered to wear your mask if you feel more comfortable doing so. We will have masks available upon request.
*Please note: bees and fire ants are present in the garden. Participants with allergies should bring appropriate medication and alert staff members of your allergy.
In the event of rain, this event will be rescheduled to Tuesday, April 11th 5:30-7:30pm. You will receive notice via email.
