About the speaker: Ireti DeBato-Cancel considers herself a cultural alchemist. She is on a journey to completely free her authentic cultural self as she invites others to embark on their own journeys to cultural freedom. She came to Oregon State University (OSU) from Ashland, OR by way of Houston, TX, where she was born and raised. She received her master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arkansas. She returned to the mental health field in 2018 when she started Light and Shadow Counseling, a private practice that centers Black mental health and wellness. Ireti works as one of the Coordinators of Black/African American Student Mental Health and Wellness at OSU.
