The Rwanda Team of CU Boulder's Engineers Without Borders Chapter is hosting a jigsaw puzzle competition to raise funds for the implementation of our new rainwater catchment system in Janja, Rwanda this summer. We hope you'll join us to compete in teams of 1-2 or 3-4 in a timed competition where teams will race to solve an identical 500-piece puzzle as quickly as possible. There will be prizes for the fastest finishers as well as door prizes announced throughout the morning.
About Our Team:
Engineers Without Borders CU Rwanda works with communities in Northern Rwanda to design and implement rainwater catchment systems. So far, we have implemented seven water catchment systems in the communities of Munini, Nyarutosho, Gasebeya, Ntarama, Kibaya, Gasiza, and most recently Kadahenda. In these villages, water is a scarce and valuable resource. The two main sources of water for the community are currently government taps, which are unreliable and highly dispersed, and a lake about a two hour walk away from some of the nearest villages. Most community members walk several hours per day to one of these water sources, and in the case of the government taps, pay a high fee of about 100 Rwandan Francs ($0.11 USD) per jerrycan.
In Summer 2022, four students traveled to Rwanda to implement a rainwater catchment system in Kadahenda, Rwanda, evaluate the performance of previously implemented systems, and develop relationships with our in-country partners. We are dedicated to continuing our commitment to these partners and our students, and are preparing for in-person implementation of our eighth system, Janja, this summer.
