WE CARE!Join Sarasota Women's Council of REALTORS Sarasota for our "We CARE Day" at HSSC on Thursday, March 23 from 10:00 am to Noon, as we lend a hand with the care of the pets who are awaiting adoption. The Humane Society of Sarasota County's volunteers generously gives their time and talents, which enables HSSC to continue to save lives and expand our services for our community. With so many resources required to provide care for our animals, it would be impossible to fulfill our mission as the area’s premier no-kill shelter without community volunteers. We begin at 10:00 am with a Welcome Tour of the HSSC facilities. Our objective will be providing Socialization & Enrichment; Dog Walking & Bathing; Monitoring Play Groups and more.
HSSC renovated its outdated facility in 2021 to a new 38,000-square-foot shelter, which was finished in June and has more space for animals. The organization currently has 204 animals in its care, including 105 cats and 99 dogs. Last year, HSSC had nearly 1,800 adoptions.
As you begin to work with an animal, you can see a change in its personality almost instantly. As mentioned earlier, most of the pets are strays and have had limited interactions with humans. After spending time with the animals, whether it’s taking them for a walk, giving them a bath, or just showing them some love, their personalities come out and they start to shine. You can almost see the change in their behavior instantly. Now, that is something entirely rewarding!
