Description

Basketry: TwiningSaturdays, April 1 and April 8 1pm-4pm (both days) Instructor: Judy Dominic $70 + $5 materials prep fee No experience needed – all levels welcome Class limit: 8 Twining is one of the four basic basketry techniques used world-wide. The same technique is used on a loom at the end of a woven project to hold the wefts in place. Twining easily goes 3-D when you consider that the spokes (warp threads) hold the weavers (weft threads.) Twining easily holds any shape you wish and strengthens the form by having a weaver on both sides of the spoke. We will be using dyed sisal cordage (bailing twine!) that has been donated to the Guild. As a flexible yet strong fiber, this will lend itself easily to more sculptural forms, Any round, flexible when soaked, or dry material (with a diameter no larger than your pinkie finger) that you wish to use is welcome. Come prepated to learn basics and/or push the boundaries of what you already know. There is no pattern to follow in this class – your hands will make it up as you go! Supplies you bring: Kitchen shearsApron6 spring-type clothespins or medium binder clipsOptional: your own weaving materials and a bucket for soaking, if neededYour dinner/snacks if desiredQuestions about this class?
