*Must have basic circle keeping knowledge to join this class, you can find links to MARS Circle Keeping 101 and details at www.mediationservice.org if you do not already have circle keeping training. *Minimum of 8 participants required to host this training, you will be notified within a week of the date if the class will not be hosted due to attendance. This is for those individuals looking to deepen their understanding of the circle process. This training will dive into the importance of a trauma-informed approach, values that ground their own circle-keeping, and the ways that liberation, equity, and wellness are present in restorative practices. Participants will also have the opportunity for additional circle-keeping practice. Dates: *Only chose 1 session date April 12, 2023 9am-1pm CST (IN-PERSON) November 1, 2023 4-8pm CST (IN-PERSON) Location: 1201 89th Ave ne Suite 300 Blaine, MN 55434 Lite snacks and beverages will be provided. Meet the trainers: Dr. Raj (he/him/they) Recovering Criminologist Raj is a recovering criminologist, alcoholic, and survivor of sexual abuse, with over 20 years of community-based activism as a researcher and educator. Inspired by our youth's resilience and the men in our prison systems, he trains school staff, probation agents, community members, and justice personnel on restorative practices, trauma and healing, value-centered leadership, community building, and unpacking implicit biases. He believes in raising consciousness utilizing the restorative circle process. In his latest work, raj explores our justice system's depths and creates a framework in which knowledge, critical consciousness, and heart become the root of our practices. Cassie K. Restorative Practice Coordinator Cassie is the Restorative Practices Coordinator at MARS. She oversees our juvenile diversion program, facilitates restorative conferences, and provides training, coaching, and assists in the implementation of restorative practices in Anoka County schools. Cassie recognizes the impact a punitive and inequitable education & justice system can have on youth and how a restorative approach to discipline encourages accountability and repair and empowers individuals to pursue and accomplish their goals. She firmly believes in the importance of individual narratives and focuses on establishing courageous space. Cassie encourages participants to embrace their own story and experience and strives to create a space rooted in individual growth, accountability, connection and making amends.
