You are most cordially invited to join the family of Leonora Smith & the Poetry Action Network (Lansing Area) in a joyful celebration of her life featuring Leonora's poetry and the kind of spirited conviviality which came so naturally to her. A poet/writer/performer/scholar/teacher & emerita professor of Michigan State University, Leonora was a bold and adventuresome spirit, wildly witty and insightful, a nurturing presence to family and friends alike. A mentor to many, her home became a salon for writers and writing groups who sought to share and improve their work. Her many readings in Lansing, at Michigan State University, and across the country at writing conferences drew enthusiastic fans. As one sister poet wrote, "I will never forget Leonora's voice and the spirit behind it."
We will gather at Urban Beat, 1213 Turner St. in Lansing, Michigan—in Lansing's historic Old Town District—on Saturday, April 15, from 2 to 4 PM for conversation, Leonora's poetry, music & appetizers.
Please RSVP, in the form of a FREE Ticket on this EventBrite site, to help the family plan the event and make adequate arrangements. Please RSVP by April 1st, 11:30 PM.
If you cannot attend the event but would like to make a 2-4 min. video recording of one of Leonora's poems, that would be wonderful. For best results, send a MP4 file, 1080p 24fps. Send the video to Ruelaine Stokes, [email protected]
We very much hope you can join us.
