StorySlam Oakland Presents: UNEXPECTED A Night of True Stories and Good Food Doors open: 6:30 PM. Stories begin: around 7:30. StorySlam Oakland is back! At a fabulous new venue called the Sound Room in Oakland. Come to tell a story, or just listen and enjoy the good food and drinks. How it works: Think of a story from your life when the unexpected happened, with surprising results. Rules: Stories must be true, about YOU, and 5 minutes or less. Put your name in the hat for a chance to tell. No reading or notes allowed. You'll tell it like you're telling friends around a dinner table. We may have some special guest storytellers also. The Sound Room is a nonprofit dedicated to Bay Area jazz, music and arts. The interior space has state-of-the-art sound (of course), uncrowded tables and chairs for dining and watching, great lighting, and a friendly low stage. Great for date night. And yum, they have an exciting menu of small bites and share plates, select wines and craft beers, and unusual non-alcoholic drinks. We ask that each person buys at least $10 worth of drinks or food at the show to support the Sound Room. Check out their menu here. It’s the perfect place to have an intimate true storytelling show. As many of you know, StorySlam Oakland is a labor of love hosted by creator Julie Soller and comic and artist Inanc (Ino) Karacaylak. Since 2012. StorySlam isn’t just a show, it’s a community of people who love to connect by sharing and hearing true stories. That includes you! For our comeback show, there won’t be voting or prizes, but the hosts will make note of the audience’s favorite stories so those storytellers could be invited back for a special ‘Best Of’ later in the year. You are invited to put your name in the hat for a chance to tell a 5 minute-or-less true story about you on the theme, “Unexpected”, whatever that means to you: finding your soulmate or getting suddenly dumpedfalling prey to a scam getting some good piece of luck that changes thingsthe plan just not working out way it was supposed to ...or the trip, or the promotion, or the kid... but anything on theme works for usOr just listen and laugh.
