Description

Mission: The population at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is vast and varied, making diversity one of our greatest assets. Unity in Diversity (UiD) asserts fundamentally that assimilation is not unity; unity is instead the critical and conscious move of individuals and communities toward mindfulness, understanding and compassion. We find that thinking critically of differences enhances the lives of individuals and communities and drives us to new ideas, technologies, and widened perspectives. This event features a variety of speakers, performances, and artistic expressions; University and local community clubs, organizations, non- profits, businesses, and sponsors; as well as local crafts, artists, and vendors. In 2023, we wanted to extend the impact of UiD to include the critical need to raise environmental awareness and help change our impact on the Earth, which will ensure that diverse generations to come will be able to enjoy a healthy and comfortable environment on our planet. Portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local indigenous, environmental, non-profit organization & UNR Graduate Student Emergency Fund. 2023 Event Details: Date/Time: Saturday, April 22nd 12 – 5PM. Location: Joe Crowley Student Union (JCSU) plaza and lawn& Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center (MIKC) walkway. Parking: Parking is free on campus, at the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex (closest) or West Stadium Parking Complex, both of which are close to the event. Gateway Parking Complex is also available but is a short walk from the south end of campus. Performance: GSA will feature a variety of diverse speakers, performances, and artistic expressions on a central stage, located at the JCSU plaza. Tabling: GSA will be featuring local non-profits, community organizations, and UNR clubs & organizations, to showcase their impact in promoting equity and diversity in our community. Located by the JCSU. Vendors: In partnership with Reno Outdoor Market, the GSA is bringing 30 local vendors to campus. Located by the MIKC. Raffle: Graduate Students Alumni Chapter (GSAC) will host a raffle for variety of prizes, generously provided by our community businesses, to raise funds for the UNR Graduate Student Emergency Fund. Located between JCSU & MIKC. Sponsorship: GSA is looking for a variety of sponsors for this event. GSA’s budget is entirely funded by graduate student fees, and it helps support variety of services such as: need-based services, scholarships & awards, clubs & organizations, trainings & workshops, recognition events & socials, specialized programs such as the Household Items Program, and the like. UNR graduate students get paid between ~$1600 - $2000 a month, and with the current housing market and inflation, many of them are living on less than $300 a month. Your donation will truly change lives! Contact: Taissa Lytchenko [email protected], 775-997-9025
