Description

Returning from the Northern Rockies as a Hot Shot Forest firefighter during the recession of the early 80s, John Molina came across a photograph of his Grandmother on a basketball team during the Great Depression.  When the UConn Huskies won the National Championship in 1995, he wondered how women went from bloomers to National TV. Listen to John on a  journey of when the only opportunity for women to play basketball and get paid was to trailblaze their way across the country playing against men and by their rules. When the 'weaker' sex would barnstorm into town to play against the best team men could put together AND beat them the men would have to answer questions the following day to families and the community as to why. His award-winning book Barnstorming America, Stories from the Pioneers of Women's Basketball is currently being shopped by producers in Hollywood for a possible TV series. John has been inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame as well as the Connecticut Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. This will be a buy-your-own-beer (or food) event. Like all our events, it is free and open to the public. Unlike most events, no work gloves or boots are needed. Saco Bay Trails is an all-volunteer organization. Everything we do is thanks to members, volunteers and supporters like you who come out on the trails, join our work parties, keep up their memberships, and contribute to making the Saco Bay region a better place to live.
