An active shooter is an individual who is engaged in killing, or attempting to kill, people in a confined and populated area. Active shooter incidents are often unpredictable and evolve quickly. Amid the chaos, anyone can play an integral role in mitigating the impacts of an active shooter incident. The most effective workplace violence prevention plan is one that is put in place long before trouble occurs. Employees need to understand what to do in an emergency and what the City's response will be. The Hernando County Sherriff's Office provides training to the public with guidance on how to prepare for and respond to active shooter crisis situations.
