This semester the students of the Introduction to Public Humanities class led by Professor Felicia Jamison at the University of Louisville worked with Oxmoor Farm to reserach and interpret the topic of slavery. Felicia Jamison is a professor in the U of L History Department and the Department of Comparative Humanities. Oxmoor Farm was established in 1787 by the Bullitt Family and was once the home of over 100 enslaved people. Throughout the semester the students worked on group projects in which they conducted archeological digs inside one of the former slave cabins; created an exhibit centered around Louisa an enslaved woman; conducted oral histories of the descendants of the enslaved people; conducted archival research and created metadata of enslaved people in the Bullitt Family papers; researched and wrote about how visitors may experience visiting historic sites that have slavery in their pasts. The students have worked very hard and are excited to present their findings to the broader Louisville comunity. Please support their hard work and come hear what they have unearthed, created, and researched over this last semester.
This is a FREE event! The presentations will be held in the library wing of the historic Oxmoor house.
The afternoon will begin at 4:30pm with a small reception of nibbles and drinks with the formal presentations beginning at 5:00pm.
