Description

he Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, funded by the Global Engagement Grant, provides a pathway from poverty to prosperity by connecting the artisanal sector around the world to the students at Texas A&M University. The program recently facilitated the International Artisan Market and Cultural Exchange Capstone’s (The Bush School) visit to Oaxaca, Mexico to understand the most pressing needs of the community, build relationships with the social entrepreneurs, and provide them with viable solutions. The program along with the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley is proud to host 'DAVA Artisan Design' at the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Event this year to provide a marketing/sales opportunity for the artisans in College Station/Bryan. Since the Brazos Valley Farmers Market helps in strengthening the urban-rural community bonds by supporting producers and artisans , they made a good fit to pair with our partners DAVA Artisan Design. They are a cooperative of 15 artisans based in Oaxaca, Mexico dedicated to producing high quality hand-made shoes and sandals through ancient traditions. They reduce their carbon footprint and care about environmental conservation by using recycled materials and natural fibers. This market experience for DAVA Artisan Design will also support a network of over 50 indigenous artisans in their native community. We look forward to seeing you at the event to support DAVA Artisan Design’s noble cause by choosing your favorite pair of shoes from their wide and impressive variety of footwear!!
