Description

Heralded as one of the most important saxophonists of our time, composer and producer, Chico Freeman has perfected an immediately recognizable approach to music and composition, blending what he has experienced from his past and providing fluidity into a future of infinite musical possibilities. Although jazz was the first music Freeman was exposed to, many of his early professional gigs were at Chicago clubs with such blues artists as Memphis Slim, and Lucky Carmichael. Freeman went on to play with pop and R & B greats The Temptations, Michael Jackson, The Four Tops, Jackie Wilson, The Dells, The Isley Brothers, and The Eurythmics. Chuck Lamb, familiar to local audiences as keyboardist for the Brubeck Brothers, sons of the legendary Dave Brubeck. His local roots extend as far back as the heyday of the fusion group Dry Jack, regular visitors to the legendary Firebarn club next to City Hall in the 1970s and ‘80s. Lamb has also logged touring and performing credits as diverse as the Woody Herman Orchestra, Peter Frampton, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Drummer Harvey Sorgen provides the coloristic underpinnings of the combo, bringing a dizzying breadth of artistic collaborations in jazz and rock to the band. Through Dreamland Recording Studio and freelance work, he has had the great pleasure of being involved with many great recording projects as an engineer and editor. One of his favorite projects was to remaster the entire ESP record label. His first instructional DVD " Drumming Made Easy " is currently available worldwide from Homespun Tapes Inc. / Hal Leonard publishing. He also appears on Jack DeJohnette's " Musical Expression On The Drum Set" and Jorma Kaukonen's " The Electric Guitar Of Jorma Kaukonen. Auburn resident Peter Mack, the well-known bassist, leader, impresario, and supporter of the jazz art form, has assembled a new quartet including some of the hottest established names in jazz, rock, pop, and classical music to perform at Auburn Public Theater. Peter Mack’s accomplishments begin from his days as a classical student on viola, through his college years at Berklee College of Music in 1974. He cut his teeth on string bass at Syracuse’s famed Casa Di Lisa and was fortunate to play with visiting musicians, the likes of Sal Nistico, Art Blakey, Walt Weiskopf and Joe DiOrio, just to name a few.
