This is a workshop for ultra beginners who think it's impossible to play an instrument but always wanted to, or for people who have an instrument under the bed but don't know the first thing about playing the darned thing, or for people who attempted a YouTube music education and got too frustrated to carry on. You will be walked through making the basic chord shapes on fretted instruments, how to read chord charts, and the very basics of how to follow tablature. You should leave this workshop with the mysterious veil of getting started on your instrument lifted and with a newfound sense of self sufficiency. We recommend that you bring an instrument but we will also have a few on hand. ** Helen Gassenheimer is the founder and strings teacher of Green Mountain Music in Rutland. She is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter who has her degree in music and theatre arts from Bennington College. A native of Birmingham, Alabama she studied violin and music education under legendary artist and teacher Ladonna Smith and has toured the world as an artist, performer, and teacher. She has worked as a touring and studio musician with Bonnie Whitmore, The Mastersons, Some Dark Holler, Willie Breeding, Thomas Bryan Eaton, Blue Mountain, The Pollies, and Doc Dailey, among others. She is also a part of the ongoing project Loubelle, a band she shares with her sister. She has taught private music lessons for 20 years and has devoted her life to instilling joy through the experience of music.
