Description

This event offers 1 ETHICS hour of CLE credit - pending UT Bar approval. Get your required ethics CLE credit before June 30th! Politics may be one of the few arenas with more hostility than legal practice. Learn how a Utah native helped develop a method for scoring political communications based on its power to unite or divide us by measuring whether politicians are speaking with contempt or dignity to and about those they disagree with. Tami Pyfer will speak on the Dignity Index, a tool designed to show us how we treat each other when we disagree, and how our responses can either ease the divisions in our country or worsen them. The Dignity Index has been featured in Politico, the Deseret News, and The Bulwark. Learn how we can apply the principles of the Dignity Index to ensure that our legal practice is both professional and civil. About the Speaker: Tami Pyfer is the Chief of Staff and Director of Operations for UNITE, founded by Tim Shriver (Chair of the Special Olympics) to help ease divisions, prevent violence, and solve problems in our country. She manages UNITE's public relations, social media, and partnerships, and is the Utah Demonstration Project Lead for the Dignity Index, a tool designed to show us how we treat each other when we disagree, and how our responses can either ease the divisions in our country or worsen them. The Utah Demonstration Project was the first public effort to refine and test the Dignity Index, and has been featured in Politico, the Deseret News, and The Bulwark. The UNITE team is now working to take the Dignity Index to a national audience. Tami previously served as Education Policy Advisor to Governor Gary Herbert, on the Utah State Board of Education, the Logan City Council, and as a member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
