Baroque, which originally meant a pearl of irregular shape, had a negative meaning at the time, and its flamboyant, showy style was seen as a belittling of the Renaissance, but now it's widely accepted that Baroque is one of the great artistic styles of Europe.
Baroque music (1600-1750) often expresses a basic mood: those that begin with lightness continue with lightness throughout. The first exception to this Baroque principle of a single mood occurred in vocal works. The emotional consistency of Baroque music is first expressed by the continuous rhythmic pattern, and the melody also creates a sense of coherence and unity, which is matched by a consistent level of intensity: the volume tends to be consistent within a certain period of time.
The two most important Baroque composers were George Friedrich Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach (J.S.Bach). The death of J.S. Bach in 1750 marked the end of an era for this style of music.
