Michigan Design Center's May Event 2023 Presented by Jen Dolan, Director of Residential and Retails Sales for Arteriors In this course, Arteriors will discuss how sustainable ways of working across a wide variety of business practices in the areas of design, production, and logistics are imperative to supporting and fostering the earth’s fragile ecosystem. Participants will learn about sustainable practices in business and why they must be considered when specifying products for interior design projects, including: · Product Design and Production: Material Composition and Material Harvesting · Preservation of Artisan Craftsman and Production · Product Lifecycle · Packaging · Transit At the end of this course, participants will: 1. Gain an understanding and appreciation of the use of sustainable practices in product development, sourcing, production, and manufacturing in the home furnishings industry, and be able to use this knowledge when specifying furniture, lighting and décor created from natural, sustainable materials in design and production. 2. Learn how supporting and preserving artisan craftsmanship contributes to the preservation of quality production, the conservation of legacy techniques, and the manufacturing of products with long product lifecycles, and use this information to source items that positively impact a sustainable footprint. 3. Explore the importance of lasting, enduring, non-disposable product design and realize why selecting home furnishings with a long product life cycle contributes to a sustainable footprint. 4.
