Ugadi is the New Year celebration of Telugu Speaking People in the Indian States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who follow the Lunar Calendar. It refers to the beginning of a new age and is derived from the Sanskrit words Yuga (age) and Adi (beginning). As a part of the new year celebrations, people create floral patterns on the floor and feast on sumptuous meals representing the cuisines of the different states, and the celebration of Ugadi brings with it the freshness of a new year and happiness amongst the people.As part of the Ugadi festival, Telugu speaking people from all over Lansing will come together on one platform to celebrate the festival as a community. They will participate in cultural events that will be followed by a sumptuous meal for all attendees. A traditional event has been conducted by LTA for the last 20 years to bring the people of the Telugu speaking community together. This is in order to promote and maintain the shared heritage of this community and to pass it on to the next generation.
