Eating Disorders are mental illnesses/psychological conditions that affect one's eating behaviors. The symptoms of an eating disorder include cognitive obsessions about one's body shape or weight. AND the symptoms of an eating disorder include the behavioral actions of under eating, overeating, and engaging in compensatory behaviors. The compensatory behaviors can include purging, movement and or exercise.
The treatment for eating disorders is through a combination of professionals (medical, dietary, and mental health). Intervention by the mental health professional consists of behavioral management and treatment of the cognitive and behavioral symptoms. Training on the forms and tools used to manage and treat eating disorder symptoms will be provided in this presentation.
Objectives:
• Learn the clinical reasons for behavioral management and intervention in treating eating disorders.
• Review and discuss a behavioral individual therapy progress note.
• Learn behavioral tools to assess symptoms of eating disorders.
