Description
What is a nature connection walk?Join us for a mindful walk on the beach at low tide. Nature connection walks are a small-group experience inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin yoku, which translates to "forest bathing" and is associated with health and well-being. (No actual bathing involved!) What can I expect on this walk?Unlike a hike or a naturalist walk, we'll give our bodies and brains a break by simply using our senses to experience nature. About the practice: After introductions, you'll learn more about the origins of nature connection and its physical and mental health benefitsExperience nature using our senses: I'll offer a variety of invitations for you to slow down, tap into your senses, and experience this beautiful placeMoments of sharing and listening: We'll have moments where we'll come together and are invited (but never required) to share what we're noticingTea and a snack: We'll close with tea and a light snack, as well as have the opportunity to chat as a communityWelcoming space: I'm a firm believer that everyone belongs in nature; I create a welcoming space for people from all walks of lifeWhat if it's raining?Everyone's safety is the priority. If the forecast predicts unsafe or especially difficult conditions, like very high winds or heavy rains, I will reach out 24 hours in advance to reschedule. If the forecast shows scattered light sprinkles, I will reach out in advance with additional guidance on what to wear/bring so you stay comfortable and warm.“The highlight was being introduced to how to look past all the chaos of everyday life.” — Past walk participantWho should attend?Anyone who wants to meet new people and connect with nature in a new wayNo outdoor experience required! This walk is intended for adultsCome solo or bring a friendPlease be aware that stairs are required to access the beachWhile this beach is dog-friendly, please leave your dog at home for this experienceWhat else should I know about accessibility? There's a parking lot and street parking~10 min. walk from Cliff & La Marina bus stop~15 min. walk from BCycle dock at Elise and MeigsRequires taking stairs to access the beachElevation is flat except for stairs; ground is uneven and rocky in some places~1-2 miles of walking, plus periods of standingYou may be invited to sit on a rock, log or on the ground if you wishIf you have questions about accessibility, contact TamaraWho is guiding this walk?Tamara Murray is the founder of Santa Barbara Nature Connection Walks and a firm believer that, in nature, everyone belongsTamara is certified as a guide by the Association of Nature and Forest TherapyTamara holds an active Wilderness First Aid + CPR certification
