Description

Using Reflective Supervision Friday, March 24, 2023 9:00am-12:00pm In-Person Only; Limited space available 3 CEUs Strong and effective supervision within social service organizations is a critical component to ensuring positive impacts in the communities we serve. Today’s service providers and social service staff are faced with complex work, multiple distractions, competing priorities, as well as dealing with the emotional impact of working in a helping profession. As supervisors, how can we best guide and assist our staff to be successful and have the greatest impact? This workshop aims to provide those with supervisory responsibilities with important tools to help staff perform well and achieve strong outcomes. These tools include the development of a supervisory relationship marked by accountability, trust and safety; the promotion of a growth mindset; and the use of reflective supervision and practice. Reflective supervision is defined as a relationship-based and collaborative approach in which staff can reflect on and learn from their own work. Reflection involves paying deliberate attention to our interpersonal and work experiences and making a commitment to plan and implement resulting strategies. Workshop learning will occur through a combination of facilitator instruction (based off of professional experience and best practice resources), a video involving a case vignette, and small and large group discussions. Participants will have opportunities to explore their own supervisory experiences as they relate to the topics discussed. This workshop satisfies the Clinical Supervision requirement for professional counselors in the State of Illinois (if outside Illinois, please check with your licensing board) Workshop Objectives: 1. Participants will gain understanding of the complexities inherent in the supervisor/supervisee relationship and will become knowledgeable in utilizing this relationship to the benefit of staff as it relates to learning and service delivery or performance. 2. Participants will gain knowledge in understanding the concepts and importance of reflective supervision and will learn to apply recommended methods in assisting the staff to make use of reflective practice.
