Description

Professionals and volunteers working with loss have the dual responsibility to care for themselves and the people they serve. Unfortunately, we often put our own needs on the back burner, which can lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, illness, and impact our ability to deliver compassionate care. With the extra demands placed on caregivers over the past few years, now is an excellent time to fill your cup so you have the mental, emotional, and physical energy to thrive. Viewing caregivers and clients as equally deserving of care, this workshop offers tools to decrease the balance of suffering as we enhance everyone’s well-being. The morning agenda will focus on caregiver health inside and outside your organization. The afternoon will deliver emerging grief therapy techniques and discuss how to apply them skillfully to clients and yourself. Both personal and professional loss is hard. But as a community equipped with the right tools, we will reconnect with hope and inspiration for a meaningful life. This workshop draws on Heather Stang’s experience supporting professional caregivers in hospice, hospital, and mental health organizations, as well as her own challenges managing personal and professional loss as both a suicide hotline call specialist and grief counselor. After attending this workshop, you will feel more confident in your ability to create a self-care plan for yourself and your clients. You will feel inspired to put your own wellbeing first knowing this will benefit everyone. The work you do is important and necessary, and this workshop will help you reconnect with your personal mission to serve.
