Mentoring has always been a two-way street, yet often interpreters talk about mentoring as something they receive. Interpreters look for colleagues who can mentor them or provide them with resources, feedback, etc. It is typically framed around the mentee and not the relationship between the participants. This workshop will explore how we can reframe the mentoring dynamic by becoming active participants in our own mentored experience and initiate productive conversations that benefit both parties involved. We will explore what that looks like for new interpreters just entering the profession and how they can set themselves up to be life-long learners. This workshop is geared towards interpreting students and pre-certified interpreters.
