We have created a playful program dedicated to women surfers and all other women who seek emotional connection, healing, companionship, and the power of friendship. Join us for a panel with Ivana Bajic, author of the book Nature of Surf Women, Natalie Small, LMFT, surf therapist and founder of the Groundswell Community Project and Joanna Burga, Co-lead, One Watershed Program, Surfrider Los Angeles. Moderated by Anna Dimond, journalist and surf writer. Special guest: Giselle Carrillo, founder of Los Courage Camps. Additional activities during the evening: Interactive exhibition of women surfers in Costa Rica. Meet representatives from Surfrider and Los Courage Camps, and find your call to action. Her work ranges from artificial intelligence startups to eminent artists, including Marina Abramovic and Jeff Koons. Her clients include the British Society of Cinematographers and Warner Bros. Studios. Author and producer of the interactive book Nature of Surf Women. She is currently working on a documentary film about Surf Therapy. www.natureofsurfwomen.com Natalie Small, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and founder of the Non-Profit Groundswell Community Project Natalie developed the Groundswell Surf Therapy curriculum and programs combining her expertise with somatic, trauma-informed, eco, and community therapy models. She believes that our mental and physical health goes hand in hand with the health of the sea and incorporates ocean conservation practices into her therapy approach. Groundswell Surf Therapy provides holistic healing for womxn and their communities. Groundswell Community Project is a member of the International Surf Therapy Org and the first to become recognized as a certified CEU training provider by a therapy association, California Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. Groundswell initiated #NoPlasticNovember movement as an opportunity for surfers worldwide to take small actions that will make surfing a sustainable practice for generations to come. www.groundswellcommunity.org Joana Burga, Co-Lead of the Surfrider One Watershed program Joanna works at a local clinic in Venice, serving the underserved population by providing trauma-informed therapy and care. Joanna currently holds the role of a co-lead of the One Watershed Program in Los Angeles, where her passion for advocacy, beach access, and healing through nature come together. One Watershed is a beach access equity initiative that brings youth from underrepresented communities in LA County to their local beach for surfing lessons and conversations in community watershed conservation.
