Description

Join us for the Black Farmers Hub Green Book (Soil to Pan Series) cooking demo where you'll get a taste of history, cooking tips, and delectable food! From the local nonprofit program Black Farmers Hub Green Book. Historically we think of the African Diaspora’s diet as unhealthy. However there are some healthy traditional eating models based on the common African traditions and foodways of our African American ancestors. The traditions of our ancestors was recognized distinctively for their rich flavors and use of many native herbs of each ethnic group. Keep in mind as we listen in the cooking demo there are four splinters and styles of cooking in the diaspora… four major regions of the African Diaspora exist—West and Central Africa, the American South, the Caribbean, and South America." Black Farmers Hub will provide some goodies to try at home. Chef Jason and Jasmine will give some historical cooking demos of how our ancestors would cook and they will also provide a background & demonstration of a delicious plant based dish using sweet potatoes, black eye peas, collards, and some Carolina Gold Rice (this will provide a historical context to this Carolina commodity.
