Description

Join us at Downtown for a one night only celebration of botanicals. Our dear friend Laura Bavlnka, owner of Bavlnka Brand, joins us at the workshop to guide you in making your very own naturally dyed bandanas! Ryan Castelaz, founder and creative director of Discourse Coffee, will be behind the bar serving two brand new drinks that celebrate the botanicals being used for the dyeing process (included in the price of admission). The event will be from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, with drink service starting at 6:00pm and concluding at 9:00pm, and the workshop starting at 6:30pm, and concluding around 8:15. Feel free to come early, and of course to hang out afterwards to shop and mingle. Laura Bavlnka has been dyeing fabric for over a decade with 5 years of experience exploring the art of natural dyeing. In this 1.5 hour long workshop, you’ll learn the basics of Natural Dyeing. Whether you have an interest in starting a hobby in natural dyeing, or you are simply looking for a night of fun where you get to go home with something pretty, this workshop caters to all. Each participant will make one bandana using the bundle dye method with flowers, foliage and other plant materials. These botanicals will be echoed in Ryan’s cocktails to illustrate the full range of potential in these incredible plants. Bundle dyeing is one of Laura’s favorite natural dye techniques because the results are always a surprise and always unique. You will learn her tips and tricks to get beautiful results in your bandana. No previous experience needed, all materials will be provided. The natural dye method we are using is not messy, and will not put you at risk of dyeing your clothing or hands. This workshop is intended to be an introduction to sustainable practices in textile design, and a conversation about how we can be more sustainable with our wardrobes, all over some delicious drinks. We look forward to having you!
