Description

Words of Color is an innovative reading event presented by the Hurston/Wright Foundation. This month, we celebrate the work of women as we celebrate Women's History Month. This evening of celebration will feature the work of literary icons Toni Morrison, Lucille Clifton, Gwendolyn Brooks and Maya Angelou presented by local authors and theatre artists. Seating is limited. RSVP is required. Donation is appreciated. This event takes place in a restaraunt where food and beverages will be sold. While still in the midst of COVID-19, we appreciate the use of masks while convening during in-person events. This event is made possible, in part, by the funding support of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities --- The Hurston/Wright Foundation’s mission is to provide services, supports and opportunities that mentor, recognize and provide community for professional and aspiring Black writers. Workshops and classes taught by award-winning authors serve emerging and midcareer adult writers. More than a thousand Black writers have taken our classes since the first one in 1996, increasing diversity in the cultural community as they have gone on to create books and careers as professors, local cultural workers, and national thought leaders.
