Do you love nature? Do you want to help protect our local natural resources? Join the Mill Creek Conservation Corps for our Tree Team Training! We'll be meeting on Saturday, April 1, from 1-3pm, at Stitt Pavilion in Mill Creek Park. RSVP to learn more and hold your spot! Hands-On Learning Topics: What species of trees are growing in your backyard and communityHow to do tree inventory with the Mill Creek Conservation Corps and in your own neighborhoodHow trees contribute to the health of our communitiesProject Background: The Mill Creek Conservation Corps is a citizen science project based in the Youngstown/Boardman, Ohio area. Our goal is to build resilience in local ecosystems and in our communities through volunteer conservation work. We have 2 main initiatives: a water resources initiative and a tree communities initiative. This event is one way to become a Tree Team Leader for the Mill Creek Conservation Corps. Tree Team Leaders will lead groups of volunteers in tree inventory activities during the spring and summer of 2023. Who Can Attend: All are welcome to attend, regardless of if you plan to continue with the project - sign up and join us to learn more! For more details, see the event page here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/576476244967 Instructor: Jenny Adkins, Project Scientist - Botany and Education with MAD Scientist Associates Jenny Adkins has 10 years of professional ecological and wetland consulting experience at MAD Scientist Associates, as well as several years of part-time and seasonal experience with Dayton-area park districts. She is formally trained as a biologist and educator (BS in Biological Science, Masters of Education-AYA Life Science; Wright State University). During her time at MAD, she has become a skilled botanist, earned certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist, and has created a myriad of educational programs ranging from professional development for teachers, community events, summer camps, and field trip experiences for K-12 students. She also leads MAD’s outreach program, Incredible Group of Recruits, that partners with local watershed action groups to host environmental improvement events throughout the Columbus area. Her other professional focus is developing habitat improvement plans in concert with ecological engineers and designers.
