Join us for a fun day of volunteering to celebrate Earth Month!
The Obama Legacy Initiative (OLI) aims to reduce food insecurity through community gardens, such as the Gold Star Garden at the Warren-Sharpe Community Center in Joliet, which supplies fresh produce to over 600 food-insecure neighbors and children in after-school and summer programs. The Green Sprout Urban Farm initiative involves children in growing vegetables and teaching them about gardening techniques, and the addition of native fruit and nut trees will diversify the offerings available through the local food pantry. Volunteers will help plant trees and perform other gardening tasks as needed.
