Description

Creative writing can be an act of liberation and self-determination. When students author their own stories and ideas, they begin to understand the power of storytelling and cultivating their unique voice. In this writing workshop, educators will discover ways to incorporate creative writing in stimulating, intellectually engaging, and academically rigorous ways that adhere to the Common Core Learning Standards for writing. Participants will explore creative writing approaches that can be adapted for single lessons or embedded into larger curricular units. Along with discussing the fundamentals of writing instruction, teachers will also examine how these tools can promote a joy of writing and self-discovery. This workshop is designed for middle and high school English Language Arts teachers, but all are welcome to register. Eligible NYS teachers will receive 2 hours of CTLE credit. Light refreshments will be provided. For more information about The New York Public Library’s Center for Educators and Schools, visit nypl.org/ces or subscribe to our monthly newsletter here!
