Description

In conjunction with various local organizations, the Rochester Veterans Council is planning the Rochester Memorial Day Parade on Monday May 29, 2023. The parade will be held to honor those who have served our nation’s military and paid the ultimate sacrifice. If not for people like them, we may not have the freedoms we all hold so dear today. It has been since 2019 that Rochester has had its annual parade and it has been greatly missed. Many have said that Rochester has always had one of the best and largest Memorial Day parades in our state. That cannot happen without great volunteers like you! We want you and any of your friends and family to be part of that this year and hope that you can join us. The parade will feature a variety of military units, veteran’s groups, local marching bands, Police, Fire, EMS, local sponsor companies and more. Our goal is to include as many local veterans in our parade as possible. To be able to do that we are looking at alternate transportation methods for those veterans that are unable to get around as easy as they used to. Parade Veteran Transport Volunteers: We are looking at renting a number of 4-6 passenger golf karts that will allow our veterans to get on easily and be able to interact w/ attendees. This will require a handful of volunteers to assist them in on & offloading of the kart possibly, then driving them the 1.3 miles to our end point. There is also a need for volunteers to assist wheelchair bound veterans to be pushed along the parade route. Both of these two volunteer positions will be key to ensuring these veterans are included in the parade while being comfortable and engaging. Parade Assembly/Logistics Volunteers: We also will need some volunteer support at the parade assembly area at the Holy Rosary Parish on North Main Street to help ensure everyone is where they need to be in line.Being Memorial Day we expect the weather to be warm and will need to ensure that our volunteers and our veterans have water. There will be a need for a few people to walk the paarde route to hand out bottled water to any of our group that needs it.Parade Marshall Volunteers: Responsible for walking with a designated section of the parade to ensure that it keeps a steady pace, and manage any issues along the route that may arise.Parade Banner Carriers: We will need an estimated 10-14 volunteers (2 per banner) to carry the War Era banners in front of the corresponding section.Parade American Flag Distribution Volunteers: We will need 8-10 volunteers to hand out small American Flags to attendees (mostly children)The parade will end just oast the Rochester Commons where the Field of Honor will be taking place. Please help us in making this a memorable event by becoming a 2023 Rochester Memorial Day Parade Volunteer! Please Note: This event is RAIN or Shine!
