The Lion Heart Pursuits Training program is designed to educate the participant on preventing and responding to the risk of violence in life and in the workplace. In this 3-hour course, participants will learn how to effectively develop and enhance their communication and de-escalation skills with habits and actions. Additionally, participants will learn how to effectively create, develop, and enhance their personal safety with skills, habits, and actions, and become prepared and mitigate risk by increasing their situational awareness of how to respond to an Active Shooter. This course involves group interaction, discussion, and lecture. This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 18, and of any physical ability.
The instructor, Mara Anspaugh-Lubans, began her career in safety and security training in 1998 when she enlisted in the US Army as a Military Police Officer. Following several deployments, she began the second half of her military service with a Special Operations Detachment.
Mara separated from the service in 2013 and focused on earning a master’s degree from Oregon State University. She now heads up her agency’s “workplace safety” training program and estimates she has taught the three-hour program to well over two thousand state employees in the last five years. As a result of these and other life experiences, Mara believes in the importance of mental preparedness, empathy, interpersonal communication, and a “first responder” mentality in the education and prevention of, and response to, threats of violence at work and in life.
