Description

Herbal medicine has been a part of all of our ancestries and continues to grow and evolve with the people of the earth. From tisanes and tinctures to salves and oxymels, herbs have been worked with in countless ways and preparations. Whether a part of every day life or worked with for injury or illness, herbs have stood the test of time and continue to offer their gifts for our healing and wellbeing. In this class we will learn about numerous herbal preparations, how to make them, and when to work with them. We will discuss ways to incorporate herbal medicine into your daily wellness regimen and sample several different herbal tonics and remedies. The class will conclude with a walk around The Green Farmacy Garden to meet some early spring herbs and discuss their growing habits. Go home with the confidence to tap into your roots to grow and make your own herbal medicines:) Six scholarship tickets are available for BIPOC. Email [email protected] to claim one! Located in Fulton, Maryland, The Green Farmacy Garden is a sanctuary for approximately 300 native and non-native species of plants that have been used traditionally and/or researched for medicinal applications. USDA botanist James A. Duke, PhD, and his wife, Peggy, collected medicinal plants for over sixty years. In 1997, they transformed part of their pasture land into a teaching garden highlighting the plants that are featured in Jim’s book, The Green Pharmacy. The Green Farmacy Garden is also a part of the United Plant Savers network of sanctuaries around the country, which strive to educate the public and maintain native plant species that have become at risk or endangered.
