Seattle Fashion Academy and the Remake Seattle Community are coming together to host a series of seasonal clothing clinics centered around mending and upcycling while exploring the ideas behind sustainable fashion.
Along the way, we will read the book The Travels of a T-shirt in the Global Economy by Pietra Rivoli and discuss our thoughts while learning how to extend the life of clothes we already own.
For our first event, we will be joined by Rachel Weigelt, owner of Frayed Threads Mending. She will lead us through some basic sweater darning and felting to teach us the art of sweater repair for winter. We will provide mending materials and instruction needed for the event.
We will also begin our book reading with the Preface and Prologue from The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy by Pietra Rivoli. BYOB (bring your own book). It will not be provided.
Fee: Event is free. Though, a donation (suggested $20 per ticket) to support Remake is gladly accepted. Please donate here. Remake is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working at the intersection of labor rights and climate justice within the clothing industry.
RSVP: Registration is required as we have limited spots for events.
Parking: Seattle Fashion Academy is in the Westmore Building, which has residential units on top. Parking is available in front stalls 13-16 and behind the building in spots 27-31. Covered parking is reserved for the residents. There is additional parking to the east of the building in the "Versatile" lot.
Note: Masks are required for anyone entering the school and required for the entire duration of event.
If you have any questions, please e-mail [email protected]. Hope to see you there!
