$9 ADV/$15 DOS/$10 w/ student ID at the door//18+//Doors 8pm/Show 9pm Over his nearly five-decade career, Hank Roberts has forged a compelling original voice as a cellist and composer, encompassing jazz influences, abstract improvisation, soulful folk melodies, intricate new-music compositions and vigorous rock songs. He is considered a major innovator as an improvisational cellist. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, Roberts initially made his name in the 1980s legendary New York Downtown scene alongside such frequent collaborators as Bill Frisell, Tim Berne, Marc Ribot and John Zorn, Arcado String Trio and Miniature. Roberts has shared stages and recording studios with some of the most celebrated musicians in the world. He’s recorded 10 albums as a leader and co-leader on the ‘Winter & Winter’ label, along with numerable self-released recordings. His trio record with Jacob Sacks and Vinnie Sperrazza, ‘Congeries of Ethereal Phenomenon’ was released on Newvelle Records in 2019. His most recent recording, Hank Roberts Sextet ‘Science of Love’ is a 2021 Sunnyside Records release. Along with collaborators such as Tim Berne, Gordon Grdina, Rudy Royston, and various other groups, Hank is currently a member of Bill Frisell’s ‘Harmony’, with whom he tours on a regular basis. He has appeared on many of the famed guitarist’s recordings, including his Grammy-winning 2004 release, ‘ Unspeakable’, and his 2019 Blue Note release, ‘Harmony’. He regularly records and performs in the US, Canada and Europe with a variety of uniquely. dynamic musicians. Strong Maybe is a synth/horn/drum trio from Ithaca, NY. Mark Karlsen plays baritone sax Chad Lieberman plays synthesizers Matt Saccuccimorano plays drums The members of Strong Maybe went to music school a long time ago. They have played gypsy jazz, Iranian folk, surf metal, drum & bass reggae, salsa, Americana singer-songwriter, hip-hop, and avant garde classical music. Now it’s their turn. The experience will be mostly improvised and unrepeatable.
