Mayo River State Park is a linear park that follows its namesake waterway from the Virginia line south until it contributes to the Dan River. While the park is mostly about paddling, the main park access includes a 1.7-mile loop trail, which follows a gentle ridgeline for just under a mile, then returns along a wooded creek. The trail is suitable for folks new to hiking, but has enough challenge and subtle scenic beauty to please an experienced hiker.
