We share our outdoor spaces with all sorts of wildlife, so it only makes sense that we garden with the natural world in mind! Our friends at the Backyard Habitat Certification Program are on a mission to create a network of wildlife-friendly gardens here in the Portland metro area, and they are an amazing source of knowledge on eco-friendly gardening, which is why we're excited to invite them to the Farm to give a special presentation on the subject.
On Sunday, March 26, they'll be here to talk in-depth about gardening with PNW native plants, and strategies for supporting wildlife in our back yards, all of which can start you on the path to certification with the program. Then, we'll go for a walk to our native section with one of our very own plant experts who will be there to answer questions about our wide selection of native plants. Come prepared to learn — and maybe even take home a few new natives for your garden while you're here!
The presentation is free, but space is limited, so be sure to register so we know to save you a spot.

A collaborative program of Portland Audubon and Columbia Land Trust, the Backyard Habitat Certification Program (BHCP) seeks to plant roots, create habitat, and transform the world one yard at a time. The program provides education and technical assistance to people living in Clackamas, Clark, Multnomah, and Washington counties that want to create natural, low-maintenance gardens that support people, wildlife, and the planet. Since launching in Portland in 2009, more than 10,000 properties have joined, spanning over 2,300 acres of our metro area.
