GEMfest is more than a conference – it is a festive celebration where middle schoolers can gain information and inspiration to take on middle school, high school, and beyond! GEMfest attendees will hear inspiring keynote speeches, learn about local businesses and non-profit organizations at our marketplace, and attend their choice of hands-on workshops teaching skills for success such as creativity, wellness, and leadership. Middle schoolers in grades 6 through 8 who want to meet like-minded peers, connect with high school students who just get it, and learn from inspiring and approachable female mentors to develop healthy habits for life. Become part of the Girls Empowerment Movement to make changes in your life, your school, your community, and the world. Come to learn the skills you need to be confident, speak up, feel great and make your dreams into realities. Join us if you want to have a fun day and leave feeling unstoppable! Oh, and did we mention free snacks, a delicious lunch and a gift bag full of awesome swag. WORKSHOP INFORMATION: All participants will be placed into one workshop based off their top three choices indicated in the choices when purchasing a ticket. The Confetti Project: An immersive confetti experience led by The Confetti Project that explores self-love and happiness. Be prepared for lots of confetti and lots of fun! Public Speaking: Led by USC Student Body President Hannah Woodworth, this workshop focuses on giving girls the confidence and tips they need to be strong speakers. Science Scoop: Led by Sage Science Department faculty and Science Scoop leaders, this workshop focuses on exploring careers in science. Participants will also get to do an experiment to isolate DNA in strawberries. Be a Girl Boss: Learn the basics of starting your own business as a middle school girl. Not only will you be able to generate a profit, you'll unlock the lessons entrepreneurs learn from their first ventures. The earlier you start, the more success you'll find! This workshop is led by Sage Hill's business and economics teacher. Dance: In this workshop, participants will learn from Synergy - Sage Hill's Dance Ensemble. Participants will learn basic dances and have fun with pom poms! Introduction to Coding: Led by GEM team member Anna Lin and her sister Sophia Lin, this workshop will teach girls the basics of coding and computer science. How to Make Herstory: Led by GEM team member Anne Chen, participants will learn about powerful women in history while participating in fun challenges based off of them. Participants will explore what it means to make history, and will recieve the activity book at the end! GEM Team Panel: GEM Team members will lead this workshop to help ease the transition from middle school to high school. With fun activities and time to ask questions, this workshop is great for anyone looking to be prepared for high school! Yoga: Led by Sage's Yoga coach Coach Conolly, this workshop will focus on midfulness and basic yoga. Participants will learn great skills for mindfulness and managing stress. Parent Workshop: This workshop for parents will focus on aiding them in supporting their children in the transition from middle school to high school. The workshop is led by Sage hill faculty.
