Description
SAIL provides a forum for the exchange of scholarly research. It brings together scholars, members of the Indigenous communities, native speakers, educators and language activists who are interested in sharing experiences and best practices on topics related to language documentation, conservation, reclamation vitalization. SAIL welcomes the active participation of indigenous communities, Native language speakers, and those interested in reclamation, vitalization and preservation of their heritage languages and cultures. There are three sessions split throughout the two days: the parasession, special session, and the poster session. This year, the theme of our special sessions is the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL). All attendees are asked to purchase a ticket in order to help the conference run smoothly. Tickets are priced at $10 for students and members of Indigenous communities, and $20 for faculty and other professionals. The conference will be held at the University of Arizona's beautiful Environment and Natural Resources Building 2. This year, SAIL is proudly hosted by the University of Arizona's American Indian Language Development Institute (AILDI). Our mission is to provide critical training to strengthen efforts to revitalize and promote the use of Indigenous languages across generations. This is accomplished by engaging educators, schools, Indigenous communities and policy makers nationally and internationally through outreach, transformative teaching, purposeful research and collaborative partnerships. As a result of our work, we envision that the larger society will know that language revitalization is critical to sustain and reinforce Indigenous linguistic, cultural, and spiritual health and identity. A foundational principle of AILDI is language has no disciplinary boundaries and those supporting language revitalization efforts must continually address language at the social, emotional, political and spiritual level. More information about AILDI can be found on our website
