So….what’s a “Blaze-O-Rama?”
blaze-o-rama (noun)
/blāz ō ˈrä-mə/
The most productive three hours you’ve ever spent at a bar.The very first IN-PERSON gathering of literary social media start-up A Mighty Blaze. A hive-like endeavor, where each writer, working on their own project at their own pace, contributes to an overall word count goal. The launch of a new in-person writing collective in Boston, filled with serious writers, who are seriously productive, and have serious fun. What exactly will we be doing?
5:30 Registered attendees arrive at Trinktisch Beer Hall (87 Leonard St. Belmont, MA). Mingle, grab a drink, enjoy some free snacks, relax.
6:00 Blaze Writers Project welcome by NYT bestseller Jenna Blum.
6:10 Craft talk by the OGs of writing productivity, Calvin Hennick and Grace Talusan.
6:30 BLAZE-O-RAMA!
In a Blaze-O-Rama, writers publicly pledge a word count goal they personally will hit in the next hour (200 words? 2000? It doesn’t matter how much you write; it only matters that you hit your personal goal). The organizers then add up the collective word count goals to create a Group Target. Then, we turn our phones off and write like the wind.
7:30 PENCILS DOWN!
At the end of the hour, actual word counts are shared. Math is attempted. If the actual collective word count of the past hour has hit or exceeded the Group Target, the Blaze-O-Rama will be deemed a success, and the organizers shall buy a round of drinks for all attendees.
7:40 Commence socializing with other like-minded writers. Doesn’t a drink taste better when it’s been earned? Apps will be provided, and you can purchase more food if you need.
9:00 PM Adieu, dear friend. And Blaze on.
