Amy:
When I was a child my mother always sang while doing housework. Billie Holiday, Julie London, Peggy Lee, etc... all at the top of her lungs... sometimes with the windows open without a care in the world. I wasn’t familiar with these songs and I had always assumed she was making them up.
Once in awhile she’d ad lib a Led Zeppelin tune for fun. She’s been gone almost 6 years now, but when I hear the old songs, I can hear her singing them as well.
I always enjoyed singing, and I dabbled with singing in a few bands back in the day, but I had to put that dream on hold to start a family. Now divorced, with kids practically grown, I actually have time again to pursue this dream of singing.
The songs I'm so passionate about performing may bring back memories for people, while some songs may be totally new for them. Singing the old songs keeps the spirit of our old songstresses alive... as well as the spirit of my mom, Patty O’dell ❤.
