Description

Shirley Chisholm always said, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” While those words have become the cornerstone to many black women’s professional and personal journeys, there are many who are still fighting for their place at the table. But to be clear, we no longer just desire a seat at the table. We strive to be the ones handing out the invitations. The I Brought My Chair Conference Series is a battle cry for the current and next generation of black women to take our rightful places in society, to bring our chair to every space we occupy. This year’s theme: Unbossed, but Bothered!, signifies the reframing of the agenda, the resetting of the table because having a seat is no longer enough. Black women are reaching new heights in every arena. From politics to entrepreneurship and education to corporate America, women are bosses and have earned and demanded a “seat at the table.” Prepared, equipped, and determined, women have brought their chair to the table, only to realize the table isn’t quite what we imagined. The table is unstable in the way it looks, feels, and operates. Unbossed, but Bothered! is a space for women to be reaffirmed, supported and encouraged to reset the table. We are intentional about our presence, unwavering about our passion and resolute about our purpose. The conference weekend will kick-off with a VIP Welcome Reception at Hotel Colee, Friday evening. Saturday, the conference day, will be filled with awesome speakers, workshops, and other intentional activities for attendees.
