Michigan songwriter Kyle Rasche (Chain of Lakes) and writer/songwriter Annie Bacon (Annie Bacon & Her Oshen, The Folk Opera) met for the first time in late October 2022. Within minutes Kyle shared an idea for a musical he'd been germinating for years, and it exploded in Annie's heart. Less than 4 months and very little sleep later, they debuted their full-length feature musical, The Keeper at the Trinity House in Livonia. The Keeper is the story of an unlikely family formed on a crib lighthouse (The White Shoal, the western gate to the Straits of Mackinac) 7 miles off-shore in Lake Michigan. Centering on our Head Keeper Samuel Flynn and his skeleton crew in the early days of WWII, it is at once a compelling tale of the pressures of change and family, and a love letter to the Great Lakes and the rich tradition of Michigan folk music. Come be a part of The Keeper's history as Annie & Kyle perform the entire piece in this second public workshop - its West Michigan debut. You'll be invited to share feedback at the end, or just take it in and get lost in the story.
