Description

IAEDP Jacksonville is excited to announce our Spring CE Event. This event will occur on March 31st, 2023 at the UNF John A. Delaney Student Union. Our presenter will be: Dr. Anna B. Tanner, MD, FAAP, FSAHM, CEDS-S for this 3 CEU event. Dr. Tanner will be speaking on two topics - see more below! Topic 1: Not Just a Phase: Eating Disorders in Children and Adolescents Description: Most providers in the field of eating disorders are familiar with the medical complications of these illnesses in older adolescents and adults. However, children and young adolescents are increasing affected by eating disorders and have unique medical complications that may be harder to detect, often set in the developmental context of growth and development. In addition, some of these complications are irreversible if not detected early and treated aggressively. Providers treating young patients, especially those with restrictive eating disorders, should become familiar with the detection and management of these issues. Objectives (3) 1. Name an irreversible medical complications of eating disorders that may be seen in children and adolescents 2. Name one method to assess adequacy of growth in a child or young adolescent with a known or suspected eating disorders 3. Compare risk for growth concerns between male and female adolescents with eating disorders Topic 2: Considerations for Patients with Eating Disorders and Diabetes Description: Diabetes is a medical condition fraught with risk for development of eating disordered behaviors. When present, these behaviors may worsen or accelerate the medical complications of diabetes. However, these behaviors may be hard to detect and may be present in many different clinical scenarios. Providers treating patients with eating disorders must understand the medical complications for patients using restrictive, selective, purging or binge eating behaviors with a co-morbid diagnosis of diabetes. This talk will discuss insulin-dependent and non-insulin dependent diabetes and how these are impacted by co-morbid eating disorders including bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and ARFID. Objectives (3) 1. Identify unique medical complications that may be seen in patients with insulin dependent diabetes and purging through insulin misuse. 2. Explain the association between binge eating and insulin resistance and possible medical complications. 3. Describe how to approach the evaluation and management of selectivity in patients with diabetes. HUGE Thank you to our wonderful sponsors for our Spring CE Event!
